A few train tracks cement slabs ,piles of rubble, rusting cars and a couple of brick walls is all that remains of the original town site of Yellowdine not allot when you look at pictures from the past of the place in it’s former glory. We stopped there a night and parked up beside a deserted building that’s seen far better days,Yellowdine is only about 15klm from Southern Cross but again it was just on dark and we were tired so we pulled up for the night! The next day we had a look around, like us the kids are fascinated with old places and their history! They were in their element finding old relics.A pair of old spectacles,an old metal toy car and even a metal button with the markings of an emblem and written on it “Government Railways” these were just a few of the items they found. As the ruins seemed to stretch further than what we thought ,the older girls and Pete walked on for a better look, being pregnant and quite big at the time I stayed behind with the younger kids but forgot I had to try and get back over or under the golden pipeline to get back to the bus, quite laughable when I couldn’t squeeze under. We spent a good hour looking around but once the weather started to set in cloudy with rain we called it quits! Before leaving though we went across to the Yellowdine Roadhouse, while there Pete checked out their broken fridge for them and we also purchased a book on Yellowdine “Treasures in the Bush” it goes into depth about the town site and some surrounding areas Reen’s soak,Bronti,Kellandi and Mt Palmer,it’s an interesting read and has quite a few old pictures.Available at the roadhouse is also unpowered & powered sites with a powered site there is a charge of $20 dollars a night
